Assistant Professor of Instruction (Non-Tenure Track): Museum Anthropology

Temple University’s Department of Anthropology seeks an anthropologist with training or extensive experience in museum studies, public history, or similar. This individual should hold a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field but is not restricted to a particular subfield. This position will be evenly distributed between teaching (2 courses per semester) and serving as the Assistant Director of the Temple Anthropology Laboratory and Museum. The successful candidate will teach courses primarily in museum theory, methods, and ethics and will contribute to the development of museum studies curriculum at Temple.

We are seeking a colleague with exciting ideas about university museums that will help build on the momentum that has developed behind the TALM in recent years, especially focused on education and outreach to the Temple community and beyond. They will also support museum efforts in collections management, repatriation, and fundraising. We are particularly interested in an anthropologist with experience working with Indigenous peoples who can contribute to an emerging focus on Indigenous studies in the Department of Anthropology. The successful candidate should also be firmly grounded in anthropological theory and be able to demonstrate the way that their research or professional goals enhance the TALM.

Requirements include a Ph.D. at time of appointment and a strong record of teaching and curatorial experience.
