Collections Move Project Assistant - Cultural Sciences
Start Date:1/1/2025
Interviews will start in October, 2025.
Term: 3 year contract
The Collections Move Project Assistant will provide critical support for the museum's Anthropology and History departments throughout the course of the museum's upcoming collections move. The Project Assistant will oversee work as assigned by the Project Manager focusing on departmental communication, process development, day-to-day operations, and staff training. They will be responsible for researching methodology, communicating with vendors, and operating within the project's designated budget. The CMPA - Cultural Sciences will work with the museum's cultural departments to develop workflows, training documents, and data trackers, while also acting as the primary liaison between temporary hires and their corresponding C/R departments. The CMPA will be required to attend meetings both on and offsite and may be required to accompany MPM staff to construction sites and other non-traditional venues as required. The position is responsible for managing a team of collections technicians working within the museum's anthropology and history departments on move-related activity.

Job Duties:
- Develop timelines, workflows, training documents, and data trackers for each department's individual projects as it relates to the collections move
- Monitor departmental projects and report project status to the Project Manager
- Lead hiring initiatives for the museum's cultural departments
- Facilitate the on-boarding, training, and support for new hires in each department
- Supervise a team of collections move technicians
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of designated projects as assigned by the Project Manager
- Facilitate communication between C/R departments and the collections move team
- Assist Project Manager with product research and purchasing
- Attend all new museum planning meetings as required
- Research methodology and best practices related to all aspects of a collections move
- Create records of meetings and associated information as necessary
- Act as a backup for the Project Manager when not available
- Perform any and all other tasks as assigned
Education or Experience:
- Completed Bachelors or Masters degree in Museum Studies or a closely related field. Ideal candidates will have a focus on collections management.
- At least 2 years working directly with anthropological or historical museum collections, including experience with collections inventory, packing, and organization.
- Knowledge of best practices within the field of collections management and registration
- Experience managing staff required
- Experience working with relational collections databases. Specific experience with Axiel EMu preferred.
- Detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
