Job Description: General Job Overview:
This position will assist in the coordination and execution of archaeological research activities at Ohio University. The position requires active field work and supervision of students in the field and lab. The employee will also assist in data analysis, lab work, and report writing.
Primary Responsibilities:
Archaeological Fieldwork: Will be required to supervisor students including the leading and directing the daily work activities in the field. Requires on-site troubleshooting and problem solving. This person will have to independently decide what methods are necessary in the field to meet federal guidelines for section 106 compliance.
This will involve training students in the field and evaluating and assisting with student performance evaluations.
This person will have direct input on the hiring and retention of employees.
Report Writing and Data Analysis: Report writing will be independent and will have to comply with state and federal standards and guidelines. This employee will be have to independently come up with proper data collection methods for collected artifacts. Data analysis include preparing and identifying samples. Collecting metrics on artifact attributes and analyzing these attributes with statistics. The employee will have to determine the appropriate metrics and attributes to measure based on artifact type and time period. These data are required to produce the report and to comply with federal guidelines.
Lab work and Supervision of Lab Activities: The employee will train students in artifact cataloging and in collecting the data necessary under the necessary data analysis portion of this work. He will train these students independently and account for their time and timesheets in the lab. He will have the ability to hire and fire student employees in this position.
This position is project specific and is contingent on grant, contract, and other sources of funding. The employee may work intermittently throughout the year to complete projects and support the archaeology program in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Environmental Studies, or Geology by time of start date.
- Valid driver's license.
- Minimum of 3 years work-related experience.
