Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is hiring for Population Research Project Associate III, School of Public Health

Experience and Education


  • Ph.D. in related field with major coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years research experience in public health, behavioral science or social science OR;

  • Master's degree in related field and six (6) years experience in behavioral, social science or public health OR;

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and eight (8) years experience in behavioral, social science or public health.

  • Prefer bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.



Job Duties


  • Perform qualitative interviews and/or administer quantitative surveys to research participants.

  • Prepare multiple, complex protocols and detailed summaries for multiple research studies

  • Apply advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques to develop more complex survey instruments; evaluate methodologies and tools and make plans for the implementation of modifications for improvement.

  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets in conjunction with principal investigators, statisticians and other members of the research team.

  • Prepares presentations and written reports and analysis setting forth progress, trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

  • Contribute signficantly to reports, papers and other publications; prepares tables and graphs for publication and presentation.

  • Contribute significantly to the development and submission of grant proposals

  • Train lower level personnel and peers in research methodology, protocol development, survey development and administration and other relevant skill areas

  • **Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.



Skills and Experience


  • Applied, research-focused expertise in a social/behavioral science field with qualitative methods training (e.g. public health, medical anthropology, medical sociology)

  • Extensive experience conducting qualitative data collection including: semi-structured interviews, cognitive interviews, motivational interviewing, structured observation, focus group facilitation; and ability to develop qualitative data collection instruments

  • Extensive experience conducting qualitative data analysis including: codebook development, thematic coding, thematic synthesis, interpretation of findings; and ability to develop qualitative data analysis instruments • Experience leading and contributing to research products including: peer-reviewed manuscripts, White Papers, conference posters and presentations, reports to funders and stakeholders

  • Facility with conducting literature searches and synthesis

  • Experience training personnel in qualitative research methodology and skills

  • Proficiency in NVivo and/or other qualitative data management software

  • Proficiency in Endnote and/or other reference software

  • Bilingual English-Spanish preferred but not required
