For a two month period starting in May 2023, we are looking for a Masters or Ph.D candidate to undertake ethnographic research in a community that is facing or has faced challenges related to monuments.

Through qualitative research utilizing various data collection methods to include: interviews, archival research, and observation; you will have the opportunity to build relationships with community leaders, and elected officials. The research will culminate in a 10-15 page case study, which may be published in a book or an academic journal.

Proposed research sites include:

       ●  Confederate Arsenal Selma, AL

       ●  1908 Springfield Race Riot Monument, Springfield, MO

       ●  Confederate Monument, Matthews County, VA

       ●  Vincent Chin Memorial, Detroit, MI

       ●  Vicksburg Military Park, Vicksburg, MS

        ●  Confederate Monuments, Charlottesville, VA

        ●  Juan Ponce de Leon Statue, Puerto Rico

        ●  Nelson’s Pillar, Ireland

        ●  Prague Metronome, Czech Republic

Preferred applicants will already be based in one of the locations above. Consideration will be given to Masters or Ph.D students pursuing anthropology or closely related field of study. Compensation is $10,000 for the two month period to be paid in biweekly installments.
