The Department of Anthropology at Appalachian State University invites applications for a full time non-tenure track faculty position in sociocultural anthropology (specialty open) at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor beginning 08/01/2023. A Ph.D. in Anthropology is required. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements by the date of appointment.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate education.  The position requires teaching a 4/4 load that includes both introductory and upper level undergraduate anthropology courses. A typical schedule may include general education courses (for example, ANT 2420 Gender, Race, and Class and ANT 1415 Understanding Culture), and/or a core introductory sociocultural course for the major (ANT Cultural Anthropology), plus an upper level course based upon research expertise. Initial one year contract, with the possibility for multi-year renewal based upon a positive performance review and administrative approval.
