The Epigenetics Perspectives In Communities (EPIC) Study lays the groundwork for improving communication about a key concept in genomics called epigenetic modification. It will explore the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of current epigenetic-related communications, including how such communications could shape harmful beliefs (e.g., genetic determinism, essentialism, racism, stigma). Then it will identify and create strategies for communicating about epigenetics in a way that is not harmful. The results of this project will be transformed into a toolkit to support the information needs of basic scientists, clinicians, laypeople, and journalists.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with experience in qualitative research methods and a background in health communication, education, or behavior change; medical or cultural anthropology; social or health psychology; sociology; bioethics; or related fields. Postdoctoral fellows will gain experience working in dynamic, multidisciplinary teams from across the country in a highly collaborative environment. Primary responsibilities include contributing to the analysis of qualitative data (mostly focus groups, but possibly interviews as well) and manuscript writing. Manuscript writing activities will include coauthoring manuscripts, as well as leading the conceptualization and analysis of existing qualitative data, with the possibility of additional data collection based on funding availability. Interested applicants should send their CV and cover letter to waterse@wustl.edu
